Looking forward to biking Long Boat Key having recently moved to
this area looking forward to the long biking weather as we are from
Michigan and our season is much shorter...
We are visiting Longboat Key, and would like to bring our tandem for the week.
The medical conference I am attending lasts only until noon, and I wonder if the area would offer some nice afternoon rides this time of year.
We are rather new at this, and could use some advice on the affordability and practicality of either packing it for the flights here, or perhaps shipping bike shop to bike shop.
Any thoughts? Bill and Jan Remington <wremington@comcast.net> USA - Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 23:24:06 (EST)
Checking out your site, hope to ride with you
soon.

My father-in-law grew up on Anna Maria island
so we go there every summer on vacation. I love to bring my
Cannondale M900 and ride all over the island almost every day! I
love the scenery and the beautiful homes. It is great to have bike
lanes (if you ever want to appreciate them try to ride your bike in
Atlanta sometime!) to protect you from traffic. Last year I had one
incident where a local on the North end of Anna Maria cursed me out
at a stop sign because "he couldn't tell which way I was going to
go". I was actually going to go straight. There is no signal for
that that I am aware of. :)
Aside from that I love biking on your island and hope to do so for
many years to come. Look for me the week of July 11th on my bright
yellow Cannondale!

A:We recommend The Backyard Bike Shop 5610 Gulf of Mexico Drive Longboat Key, FL 34228 941-383-5184, Call ahead to hire a bike, specify size and make etc.
Good site, we have been coming down and riding LBK from the rec
center on Sat afternoons during warm weather months for a couple
years. We have a nice 50mi route we like to do LBK to Lido to Ann
Maria and back. We will have to try and hook up for your rides.

After visiting for years, I brought my bike this past year and had
a great time. Went out every morning and put on 20 miles or so.
Watch out for sand! (We northerners are used to ground that you can
actually ride over...)
